Stephen Colbert's Presidential Bid Comes to an End

Stephen Colbert 2008 Stephen Colbert's presidential campaign appears to have come to an abrupt halt after South Carolina Democrats denied his request to be placed on the presidential primary ballot. He did not try getting on the Republican ballot because it would have cost $35,000.

The party's Democratic council said Colbert wasn't a serious candidate and questioned his viability, never mind the fact that he's polling fifth nationally among Democrats. (Maybe if he were to start talking about UFOs or throwing rocks into ponds, he'd be considered more viable.)

Colbert took his campaign to Charleston, South Carolina, earlier this week, where he was given a hero's welcome and the keys to the city.

"I promise, if elected, I will crush the state of Georgia," Colbert told the crowd. "Our peaches are more numerous than Georgia's. They are more juiciful."

Watch video clips of Colbert campaigning in South Carolina and reacting to the news that he won't be on the ballot.

I think it is absolutely wonderful that Colbert is running becase A. He makes the election more funny (that is, only in the one state in which he is even REALLY trying to run, South Carolina), and B. His day job (if you can call it that) is so diametrically opposed to that of post of the candidates (politicians) he is the only candidate (if we can actually call him that) who could truthfully present himself as a change, a new face in politics.

Most people, however, are clueless towards Colbert's campaign. For instance, there is a Facebook group which is called, "IF 4,000,000 joins Stephen Colbert will run for president in all states!". Colbert himslef posted a message on this pages' wall saying, "I am sorry to tell you all that I am not running for president. Thank you for the support though!" Surprisingly, the group has not disolved since that was posted. Here is a link if you want more information on a whole bunch of people who do not understand politics influencing the political system:

If He did run. He could continuosly streem his ideas and plans through his nationaly watched tv show, and if he brought other canidates on there he could spin the dabets and agruments in away were he would absoultly own every one in the election. his would be like opera running for president execpt colbert is a little more involved than she is.
